El extraño evento a puertas abiertas de tu colegio debería haber sido la primera advertencia. Ya casi se acababa el año escolar, sólo los mayores de ocho años podían asistir a la celebración que prometía ser una de las mejores jornadas escolares.
Aunque todo estaba cubierto de nieve, el cálido sol invitaba a recorrer el decorado colegio. Tiendas de comida, competencias, juegos, eventos, música, foros de debate, tantas cosas sucediendo al unísono que fue imposible para cualquiera darse cuenta de la farsa.
Lo único que escuchaste fue la explosión proveniente del medio del terreno antes de que tus tímpanos retumbaran a tal frecuencia que los subsiguientes gritos de terror y agonía se convirtieran en silencio. El gas azul que lentamente nubló tu vista claramente tenía la misma procedencia. Sentiste como te ahorcaba, quemaba, ahogaba bajo el agua, como si tragaras arena o ácido; todo dependía de tus peores miedos mientras perdías el conocimiento. En la oscuridad de la inconsciencia pudiste identificar palabras. Primero un susurro que te acarició mientras elegías tu nuevo destino, luego, cada vez más fuerte y como si proviniese de cada alma que había quedado atrapada en ese nuevo universo, las reglas del juego.

I. Jamás cooperarás con otras razas.
II. No intentarás comunicarte con el exterior.
III. Vivirás en este mundo y no en el exterior.
IV. Rompe una de las reglas, y un conocido de allá fuera muere.
